Study visit to the University of Tartu (Estonia)

Day 1

Participation in Erasmus+ projects is a wonderful opportunity to communicate with international partners and share a number of development and networking activities. This year initiative led by the BOOST project coordinator @Alesia Golovko promotes synergy between the two projects “Bringing Opportunities and Organizational Success To Small Local Universities in Ukraine” (101083203 - BOOST) and “Estonia-Ukraine: cooperation in multilingual education” (158-2019 - EstDev) within the framework of a study visit to the University of Tartu, Estonia (June 17-21, 2024).

The focus of the event is to give its participants some insights on Internationalization of Education and Research in Estonia and simulate the UA partners to upgrade the Internationalization strategy of their home universities. 

The first day of the study visit incorporated two incredible sessions: 

  • Session 1 with Omari Loid on ideation of international project,

  • Session 2 with Siim Lepik and speakers from the Agency for Research in Estonia on international research and international cooperation for research in Estonia.

Day 2

Day 2 of our study visit to the University of Tartu, Estonia was incredibly enriching and informative! We had the privilege to attend several insightful sessions led by esteemed experts:

🔹 Silva Bratoz (Professor, Faculty of Education, University of Primorska) demonstrated a comprehensive roadmap towards an internationalization strategy.

🔹 Lauri Randveer (Senior Specialist of International Cooperation, University of Tartu) introduced us the Office of International Cooperation and Protocol.

🔹 Aliis Liin (Legal Counsel, University of Tartu) provided an in-depth look into the organization of the Office of International Cooperation and Protocol.

🔹 Katrin Pajuste-Kuul (Research and Development Adviser, University of Tartu) discussed the strategic planning initiatives at the University of Tartu.

🔹 Karoliina Vilimaa-Pennarun (University of Tartu) shared insights on the international cooperation strategies of the hosting university.

🔹 Eveli Soo (Head of International Marketing, University of Tartu) analyzed the university's international cooperation strategies.

@The BOOST project sessions were followed by fruitful discussions that provided us with valuable perspectives and motivating ideas. We are excited to take these insights back with us and apply them in our own internationalization efforts. 🌟

Day 3

🌟 Day 3 of our study visit to the University of Tartu, Estonia was incredibly insightful! 🌟

Today, the focus was on understanding the vital role of the Grant Office and its activities at the University of Tartu. BOOST project partners had an opportunity to discuss various aspects with the experts:

🗣️ Siret Rutiku, Head of the Grant Office, shared information on international projects at the University of Tartu.

🛠️ Laura Tomson, Foreign Funds Coordinator, and Tene Viiburg, Head of Cooperation Processes, elaborated on the work of coordinators and the use of digital tools.

🌍 Dorota Zarek, M. Sc. Eng, presented the internationalization strategy of the University of Applied Sciences in Elbląg.

The day concluded with a reflective session led by our international coordinator @Alesia Golovko where participants pondered the question: "What am I taking with me today?"

Day 4

🌟 Day 4 of the BOOST project study visit to the University of Tartu, Estonia was both enlightening and inspiring! 🌟

Our discussions centered around the themes of open science, research, and entrepreneurship as powerful tools for internationalization. We learned a lot from esteemed lecturers who shared their insights on various topics:

🗣️ Ülle Jagomägi, Head of Business Relations, spoke about the functioning of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and its crucial role in the University of Tartu's internationalization efforts.

🌍 Kristofer Jürisoo, Community Manager, highlighted the significance of the Science Park in research internationalization.

📚 Krista Aru delivered an engaging session on open science and its impact on the internationalization of universities and research.

Our day began with a visit to the Institute of Computer Science at the University of Tartu's Delta building. In the afternoon, we had a tour around the Library of the University of Tartu and were hugely impressed by its modern and innovative spaces.

Excited for the final day of this incredible study visit! 🚀


Day 5

🌟 Day 5 of the BOOST project study visit to the University of Tartu, Estonia was truly impactful! 🌟

The day started with a visit trip to Tartu Healthcare College, where we had the honor of meeting Ulla Peeder, Rector of Tartu Healthcare College. She shared the College's initiatives in supporting Ukrainian healthcare professionals during these challenging times.

Our discussions on international cooperation and strategy were enriched by insights from Jaan Looga, Research Coordinator, and Krista Staskevich, Study Mobility Coordinator at Tartu Healthcare College. This was followed by an enlightening tour around the College, showcasing its state-of-the-art facilities.

Later, we toured the main building of the University of Tartu, led by Haldja Hermakula who provided us with a deep understanding of the University's history.

The day concluded with a reflection session focusing on the internationalization strategy and the finalization of our professional development course.

We are immensely grateful to the host university staff and the BOOST project international coordinator, Alesia Golovko, for their tremendous efforts. This experience has been both inspiring and motivating!
